CD artwork and duplication? Next on the list. So many details to finalize.

On top of that, did I mention the brand new web site dedicated to the project? BlipsWerx Productions allocated meager funds, so guess who is also playing website designer?

But it's all for you! I want you to have access to the material you love: Kindle e-books, PDF e-books, MP3 downloads, traditional paperback books with widely-playable CD, etc.

What's Up With My Book?!

"Cravings, Ravings & Misbehavings," the book and music CD, are done!

Well, not exactly.

The writing part was fairly easy and fun, but the technical stuff such as formatting for Kindle and paperback book... not so much.

CD artwork, duplication and technical aspects for download capability -- another set of issues.

Still, I carry on, as patiently as possible, given the mountain of challenges I face hourly. Because one day, it will all end.

The book will be available for Kindle (maybe even other readers!), and for paperback lovers. The companion music will be available for MP3 download and on CD inside the paperback version.

Everything will come together, come hell or high water!

Meanwhile, I am working on my web site and creating other options for the music and e-book until Amazon.com and CreateSpace.com approve my project.

Book Progress Report

School and cooking have cut into my creative time!

I have been writing for only four to five hours each week and would like to bump that up to fifteen. Making a promise to myself now that I will write for 7 hours this week and begin to log my sessions to keep better track of my progress.

Another note: In my writing session yesterday, I noticed that the Ravings category was sorely lacking material compared to Cravings and Misbehavings. I spent extra time working on that segment and it is filling out nicely. Or not so nicely, depending on the topic!

Final comment: I have a list of songs for the accompanying CD and need to record one from the beginning and re-record and/or master many of the others. Our main recording equipment is currently dysfunctional and has been for nearly eight months (slow-to-respond manufacturer).

But Ron and I discussed it last night, and we are going to be up and running this weekend -- even if that means using the old mixer and limiting headphone mixes.

Must get on with the production!

Writing My Book

I'm in process on my non-fiction book! My original first-draft deadline of August 15, 2010, seems light years behind so I'm looking more realistically at this massive endeavor.

My new deadline goes week by week. As long I am writing every few days, progress will be excellent.

Still need to do the recipe pairing part.

Oh, and then there's the music part. I've decided, on recommendation from several friends, to include a CD of new and previously unreleased songs with the book.

Meanwhile, school, work, chores, sleep and the occasional social commitment really cuts into my composing time!

Yet, undaunted, I carry on. There's a half-written story on Li'l Champ, and I must finish that tonight.

More details as I continue creating this multi-media masterpiece.

My hiatus from creative endeavors was brought to an abrupt halt a few days ago with the announcement by my sister that I should write a book.

Apparently, this decision was made behind my back and christened by my father and dear friend Tania from Ecuador.

After I forgave my sister for that part of the deal, we discussed the content and even the title of the book and I signed on to my new project. It mainly involves tales of my life and my loves, plus food and wine, which are also both loves of mine, of course!

Interestingly enough, when I talked with friend Sandra about this just days later, she turned it into a music project as well. No details now, just be ready for some new Sharine music to accompany this non-fiction endeavor!

Meanwhile, I'm carving out precious moments to write and edit.

If you want me to mention you in my book, write a comment on this post or after reading this post on my food & wine blog, and I'll consider your request if you give me a really good reason! But, caveat emptor, I will tell the truth and use your first name and city of residence!

This is really exciting, so after I post this, I'm going to open the L'il Champ (my suddenly and surprisingly out-of-retirement iBook) to start shredding words!

Hiatus

Here's the truth: I'm on hiatus from writing, recording and performing music. I was trying to tell myself that I'm just too busy to make music, but in reality, I'm burned out.

After spending fifteen years in Los Angeles cutting my chops and banging my head on industry doors, I moved to central California, where a virtual vacuum exists regarding a music scene (read: appreciative audience) for performing singer-songwriters like myself.

I find no joy in performing for an audience that talks louder than the music. AND I find a big negative in the fact that there are no decent paying gigs.

As far as I'm concerned, the live music scene, for all but the already connected or those willing to live with the conditions, covenants and restrictions, is a pile of rubble.

But I'll leave that discussion to the "experts," as it's not my career to assess the current state of the music industry, only to take care of myself and follow my inner compass.

That said, I may still jot down a good hook or strum through a chord progression if the mood suits me. But I'm relieving myself of the pressure to achieve that dream music career as I acknowledge and fully experience my sabbatical.

Is it temporary? Will I write another song? Go back to the stage regardless of the audience? Where is this leading? I don't know, and that's okay. My heart is still in music, and that flame won't die. I'm simply turning down the heat and doing a little soul searching.

Think of it as an extended meditation. Vacation. Retreat. That sounds sweet.

I'm in the final stages of producing a new song called "No Surrender" that is very special to me for many reasons.

First, IMHO, it's a fantastic modern pop song about female defiance. Cool!

Second, I love all the intertwining vocal parts and the dark rhythmic quality.

Third, I've invited two of my students to play crucial parts in the recording, including Bass and Lead Guitar!

I'll be mixing over the next few days, and will post again when it's up on the internet and available on my Exclusive Online Music Store!
